9 Daily Habits That Will Make You Happier

Happiness is the only true measure of personal success. Making other people happy is the highest expression of success, but it's almost impossible to make others happy if you're not happy yourself. With that in mind, here are nine small changes that you can make to your daily routine that, if you're like most people, will immediately increase the amount of happiness in your life:

1. Start each day with expectation.

If there's any big truth about life, it's that it usually lives up to (or down to) your expectations. Therefore, when you rise from bed, make your first thought: "something wonderful is going to happen today." Guess what? You're probably right.

2. Take time to plan and prioritize.

The most common source of stress is the perception that you've got too much work to do.  Rather than obsess about it, pick one thing that, if you get it done today, will move you closer to your highest goal and purpose in life. Then do that first.

Qualities of Remarkable Employees

Jeff Haiden on  www.inc.com
Forget good to great. Here's what makes a great employee remarkable. Great employees are reliable, dependable, proactive, diligent, great leaders and great followers... they possess a wide range of easily-defined—but hard to find—qualities.A few hit the next level. Some employees are remarkable, possessing qualities that may not appear on performance appraisals but nonetheless make a major impact on performance.

Here are the eight remarkable qualities:
1. They ignore job descriptions. The smaller the company, the more important it is that employees can think on their feet, adapt quickly to shifting priorities, and do whatever it takes, regardless of role or position, to get things done. When a key customer's project is in jeopardy, remarkable employees know without being told there's a problem and jump in without being asked—even if it's not their job.

2. They’re eccentric... The best employees are often a little different: quirky, sometimes irreverent, even delighted to be unusual. They seem slightly odd, but in a really good way. Unusual personalities shake things up, make work more fun, and transform a plain-vanilla group into a team with flair and flavour. People who aren't afraid to be different naturally stretch boundaries and challenge the status quo, and they often come up with the best ideas.

To Be a Good Leader, First Be Human

To Be a Good Leader, First Be Human

It is incredibly powerful for your team to know that you can get frustrated, happy or concerned and that you are even stumped by professional situations. It encourages them to seek ways to succeed even as they experience these emotions themselves. It reduces self-doubt and increases our ability to reach out, collaborate and generally become better professionals and human beings.

Companies Bill approved with mandate on CSR spending

Companies Bill approved with mandate on CSR spending:
The Companies Bill, 2011 was passed by the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, in a move that would usher in a regime for less-intrusive regulation of corporates balanced with enhanced shareholder democracy.
The new Companies Bill aims to make it mandatory for private companies to earmark 2% of net profit in preceding three years for corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities. It will also make corporate governance more transparent and make independent directors more accountable.

The Companies Bill has been under works for over a decade. It will replace the Companies Act of 1956, which was amended several times in the past two decades."

Must have Skills

Wall Street Journal, 17th Nov 2012

Even as employers remain cautious next year about every dollar spent on employees, they'll also want workers to show greater skills and results.
For employees who want to get ahead, basic competency won't be enough.
To win a promotion or land a job next year, experts say there are four must-have job skills:
1. Clear communications
Whatever their level, communication is key for workers to advance.
"This is really the ability to clearly articulate your point of view and the ability to create a connection through communication," says Holly Paul, U.S. recruiting leader at PricewaterhouseCoopers, the accounting and consulting firm based in New York.

It’s OK to not score straight ‘As’

Samir Parikh, Hindustan Times
New Delhi, November 20, 2012

Society places a very high premium on academic performance. The scenario today is that the marks your child gets defines not just who she or he is but also who you are. It is, however, not possible for every child to get a distinction, and it is important to remember that there is a world outside academics as well. There are a few points we need to keep in mind.
1 Understand your child’s difficulty: There are many reasons for children to not do well academically. Rather than dismissing them as being disinterested, understand what it is that is causing these academic difficulties. Is it attention problem, processing difficulty or some emotional distress?.
2 Accept limitations: Every child can’t get 95% in every subject every time. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. Accept your children’s limitations, identify their strengths and help them reach their potential.
3 Invest additional time to help your child: For some teens, having a parent around can help them study. Do not hover but be around for them. Help them understand concepts they might be having difficulties with. Also set some rules and boundaries.
4 Explore other avenues of interest: For teenagers with academic difficulties, their sense of self-worth often takes a beating amidst all the negative criticism. It is important for them to take up other activities they can excel in and be recognised for.
5 Give positive strokes: Due to the feedback they receive, teens often get de-motivated and avoid studies altogether. As a parent, acknowledge the efforts your child is putting in.
6 Talk to your child about his or her difficulties: Academic problems can have social and emotional consequences. Be a friend to your children and talk to them about the difficulties they are facing, without judgement or reprimand.

The Foundations of Education

Perfect carriage – the knowledge that you posses a full share of that poetry of movement which we call deportment has a wonderful effect upon the mind, and as I hold that it is absolutely necessary in the striving after physical fitness, first to have a regard for your mentality, I would put deportment down as the beginning of the alphabet of physical culture. Having learned to walk correctly, you have mastered one of the hardest and most exacting lessons of your athletic curriculum. You then know all about poise, balance; and awkwardness will not seize hold of you. … Training as training – a species of mechanics I would call it – is as appalling as it is monotonous and soul-destroying. … It is not uncommon to find the average trainer insisting upon his man working full steam until the very eve of a fight. There is nothing in my opinion more harmful to drill into a pugilist that he is just a fighting machine to be wound up and set working at will.

We shall not dwell any more on physical education, but on mental education. However, whatever Carpentier has said about the body is wholly applicable to the mind also. The education prevalent in our country and all over the world aims at preparing a severely muscular mind and brain as has been observed by Carpentier. What do we do in the existing system of education? We exert ourselves following some faculties of the mind or relying only on certain parts of the brain. We want to make the mind, the brain of the student expert and ingenious in certain branches of knowledge, that is, in certain the trick.
Georges Carpentier, the famous sportsman of France

How we govern

For business to find its greatest expression and achieve its loftier aims, it must organise and govern itself in a manner that unleashes ... forces in those who join within it.
Why HOW we do anything means Everything - Dov Seidman

What inspires you to go the extra mile!

Really talented people who have lots of opportunities, are not ultimately moved by any incremental difference in their pay cheque. What inspires them to...
1) working in a place that gives them an ample opportunity and resources with which to grow and develop as a person and make meaningful contributions;
2) working for and with people who share their belief systems, their professional aspirations, and their objectives for what the enterprise can accomplish; and
3) working in an enterprise that is somehow making the world a better place in some dimensions that is important to them.
That is what inspires them to go the extra mile. To create such a place, we need a distinct culture, as distinct character, and a distinct set of values and objectives that resonate against that spectrum of motivations.
 - Jeff Kindler in 'How'

Infinity Mind

Schoolmasters,  scholars, psychologists, psychiatrists, contemporary poets/versifiers, Western Religious leaders,Western Philosophers, bookworms, Intellectuals called mutukallimun  (people of words) in Islam  who originated with Hassan the old man of the mountains: Assassins, now suicide bombers, killers of Sufis.  Excess verbalisers are prone to this widespread malady that is almost totally unrecognised especially by themselves, yet it leads to severe mental conditions; eg neuroses and depressions coming from poverty in words.

Another shortcoming from the same source is humour; there are huge divisions in humour between people of the same race  and even more so between different races stemming from the same verbalisers and those with infinity minds. Infinity minds have infinitely more resources than verbalisers enabling them to see jokes and humour that are far more diverse. My friend Sandeep,  empowerer of  the Youth of India as Representative of the Duke of Edinburgh, said that competition between word thinkers and infinity minds is not fair. Nothing  competes with infinity mind. Creative infinity mind is a brain expanded to  infinity. In contrast word thinkers are deprived minds, thinking at a minimum level, struggling in every fields like superior troglodytes. By every field I mean one’s whole life: As Executive, General, Poet, Artist  in everything they fall hopelessly  short.  Trogs   seem an appropriate epithet for such people.

Infinity mind is the way of thought of Prophets: Buddha ,Christ and Mohammed as well as the Saint Rumi-----they lacked only modern techniques such as advanced mathematics. Everything verbalisers encounter, they verbalise even sacred scriptures being  blind to beauty and the wonderlands of infinity mind.

Sandeep joins Sector Skill Council for Plumbing

The Plumbing Industry faces the mammoth challenge of huge gap between the supply of skilled labour and the demand of skilled labour. A very small percentage of the plumbing workforce is actually skilled in India. And it becomes our duty as plumbing professionals and members of IPA and other various plumbing related organizations and associations to to ensure that skilled and certified manpower in adequate numbers is provided across industries using plumbing skills to raise plumbing standards in India to global levels.

The need for skilled labour in the plumbing sector and plumbing sector being the most neglected yet the most important sector from the point of view of health and sanitation and its importance in the Construction Sector, was thus born the Indian Plumbing Skills Council – which is headed by like minded plumbing industry heavyweights and professionals who have dedicated their lives towards the advancement of the plumbing industry. IPSC is a Sector Skill Council  for the plumbing industry in India to cater to its specific needs and demands. NSDC (National Skills Development Council) will support IPSC to develop the certificate programme for the plumbing industry.

Sandeep Dutt is  the first Operations Head the SSC for plumbing.

Rule-of-law society

Why how we do anything means everything ....
Dov Seidman in the book states

"We live in a rule-of-law society, and due to our history of ever evolving toward fairer rule making, we have grown very comfortable with rules. In fact, our reliance on them has become part of the problem; we turn to law to solve too much. If the law says we can, then we do. We're very good at can versus can't thinking. Our habits of mind are so strong in this area, in fact, that we've become muscle-bound, as overdeveloped as a bodybuilder trying to touch his toes - strong but inflexible. We overrespect rules, which leads us into a quagmire where all our actions get mucked up in the spectrum of legal permissibility. We're strong in this way that we begin to feel like we can do anything as long as we obey the law."

What we need is to live a 'principled life' and no more a 'life of principles'. Yes we do preach a lot, let us introspect, do we practice? The world today needs people who are not only following the rule-of-law society but are helping build an exemplary life with respect for each-and-every person, this will free us from the Rule-of-law society and that will be the true freedom for all of us. Let us work towards a life that is lived to the fullest and is valued to the full limit.

Govt adopts marks-for-sports plan

Chetan Chauhan, Hindustan Times
A proposal to give marks to students for achieving certain level of physical fitness and setting up two sports institutes to improve India's Olympic medal tally got a stamp of approval from the Cabinet on Thursday. Mr. Maken had unveiled the National Physical Fitness Programme providing additional weightage in academic performance to more physically fit students from class V onwards.
The students will be graded periodically with stars based on their physical fitness level.
"The scheme needs to be motivational rather than being coercive and to obtain this, the achievement of fitness by a child has to be rewarded in a manner similar to a reward for academic achievements," Maken had said, while releasing the exposure draft of the programme on August 31.
Fitness evaluation will have six components --- cardio-respiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, explosive strength (jumping) and body composition (percentage of body fat).
Fitness tests will be executed twice a year - in June and January - which will provide an idea of the status as well as level of improvement of the student's fitness during an academic session.
The programme is aimed at improve health of citizens as a recent World Health Organisation report said that one out of three Indians would be either a coronary patient or diabetic by 2030.
The ministry also wanted to set up National Institute of Sports Sciences and Medicines at a cost of Rs. 500 and National Institute of Sports Coaching to provide cutting edge support to medal hopefuls as part of its Olympics 2020 plan.
The three proposals of the ministry were part of the Planning Commission's 12th five-year plan (2012-17), whose draft was approved by the Cabinet.
The plan will now be considered by the National Development Council --- a body of all chief ministers and crucial Central ministers - probably in November

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), co-promoted by the finance ministry with the mandate to involve the private sector in training 500 million people by 2022, is planning to set up 28 Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) across verticals.

Currently, 27-28 SSC proposals are in the pipeline. We hope to create these over a period of time,” said Dilip Chenoy, chief executive officer of NSDC.

It has already incorporated six sector skills councils in automotive - called Automotive Skills Development Council, energy, retail, private security, media, entertainment and animation, and IT and ITeS. The function of NSDC would be to support the funding requirement of SSC and represent in project implementation. Each SSC would have its own governing body, he said.

One such Skills Development Council is the Indian Plumbing Skills Council (IPSC)

Volunteer Opportunities at Bali, Rajasthan

Starting with 11 students in 1992, today there are nearly 1000 students with 40% female enrollment. Students come from various villages across a 30 kilometer radius and are transported via one of the many school buses. The school maintains a teacher to student ratio of 1:30. The academic year runs from April to March. The school has been affiliated with India’s premier educational board, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), since 1997 and has produced consistently good results at the Class X Board exams every year. It has been allotted as a CBSE board exam centre for the annual board exams where students from schools across the area appear for their exams at The Fabindia School.

In keeping with its holistic approach to education, the school offers extensive extra curricular programs in addition to its comprehensive academic courses.  School activities include a wide range of sports programs including opportunities to participate in regional tournaments, as well as drama, debate, arts and crafts, music, environmental education and community service to provide a well rounded education.  Students also have the unique opportunity to go on educational field trips both within the state and beyond.  For many students these trips are their first time away from home and the exposure to other cities and towns creates lifelong impressions.

While focusing on the local culture, the school also frequently welcomes visitors, trained specialists and volunteers from across India and overseas who contribute towards the campus, teaching and sharing their experiences with the students. This unique cross-cultural exposure creates a well-informed and broad minded student body. As many visitors have remarked, the energetic students show a respect for their culture and traditions but have a clear sense of the world around them.

Since the school first started, every year it has hosted a small group of volunteers, often from another country, to spend anywhere from one month to six months teaching at the school.   While most of the volunteers come as part of an official sponsoring program, such as the Red Cross Nordic United World College program, this is not required.  We encourage you to contact us directly to learn more about volunteer opportunities.

Good words for The YES Way

I found the whole programme very energetic and knowledgeable. This programme/ workshop has marked some different challenges infront of me.
-Pallavi Bhardwaj

There should be additional workshops, as a continuation to this one. This was very interesting and made me realize what I lack to be a leader (honestly). So that is why I would love  to attend another workshop as a continuation.
-Srivattsan

I really feel good by joining this workshop and I would like to become YES mentor. I am definitely going to convince youth or engaging youth of our school as per their areas of interest.
-Neeru Gupta

A really nice motivational program. The ability to change lies within a person himself.
-Nirvaan Garg

Apart from the activities there should be a interaction about the dreams of his/her ventures and what he/she should pursue in the future. Provide the strategies of what an individual person wants to carry on. Lastly it was a very great & healthy interaction. I really enjoyed and through your inspirational workshop we would increase in life by leaps and bounds.
-Gaurav Singh

This was the first time I did shots (Cadbury)!
-Surya Pahal

I am in class 8 right now and I was not sure before this workshop whether to join IAYP or not but YES has actually convinced me a lot and I would love to prove that “I am a Young Person.” I will surely reach till the best levels I could. Thanks a lot and seriously had FUN.
-Navya Kalra

It was really refreshing and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this. Sandeep Sir & Devyani Ma’am were really good. We laughed, played games, made projects, showed presentations, and ate toffees. This was a really good ecperience.
-Muskan Periwal

Fair enough I never considered myself to be the right person to make decisions in my life. But after this session I was extremely thrilled and realized it is me who has the right to carry on with my life as I want to. So hats off!! I hope we have such sessions again in near future.
-Radhika Agarwal

The Bird Song

It is a new dawn and we all need to wake up. For many to wake up is yet another challenge of the day. The birds chirp, sing and do all they can to wake you up, but you are waiting for the rude alarm to ring.

Young people today often  use the alarm or are alarmed, I dare say to wake up. This is the hard reality, and believe me once you wake up to the bird song you will see a new world, the window opens and the mind soars. The uplift is really heady, look out and feel the energy of the winged wonders and soar high in the sky.

Raise your aspirations or raise the bar and you will feel the new found energy in yourself. Take a deep breath and your new day will make the new way for you. The lungs filled with fresh air, the ears with the melody of the bird song, see the endless blue sky (if you are fortunate), feel the cool breeze and touch the new dawn. You are sure to feel an extra sensory perception. Youth is about crossing new frontiers and let the sky be the limit, have the free spirit of the birds and sing your hearts best melody today.

Have a great day!

Take the first step

"Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase. Just take the first step." - Martin Luther King Jr.

The first step is all that it takes... the toddler starts to run and then moves to gather momentum. Our young people need only one spark to light the fire within. Adults though hesitant to let go, need to understand that a spark creates phenomenal combustible energy, and to challenge young people is our only step to take the world ahead. If it was not for the initiative, there would be no innovation and invention. Need to show the first step alone and then the young will overcome all the challenges and will make the way for us to follow.

Young people think fresh and have no delusion or any baggage to carry. We must give an opportunity to them to build on their talents, and motivate them to excel. Sports, adventure and skills are fantastic opportunity to enable young people, beyond simple academic excellence. We have to challenge young to perform and than rest will all happen...With opportunity comes solutions, there is need to exploit every opportunity and find solutions to enable the young and push them with baby steps to go all the way...

Pressure of Spirit

The mental intelligence and its main power of reason cannot change the principle and persistent character of human life, it can only effect various mechanisations, manipulations, developments and formulations. But neither is mind as a whole, even spiritualised, able to change it; spirituality liberates and illumines the inner being, it helps mind to communicate with what is higher than itself, to escape even from itself… - Sri Aurobindo

Words are dead languages, to be vivified only by creative infinity mind; the same method applies to the whole of life, utterly transforming it so we become ‘real’ poets, our lives repeatedly beautified by creative rapture. The beautiful minds is the beautiful life: the wonder mind is the wonder life.

The  Year 2012 held the Olympic games and Paralympics in London. The Paralympics were mind changing in that eight out of ten witnesses of the games surveyed had undergone a change in their brains in that the horrific injuries and the amazing triumphs over them had inspired spectators whose loud cheering astonished the athletes and those who watched them. From their habitual life in the artificial world of prosaic words, they had gained a glimpse of the real world  of creative infinity mind, full of emotions and wonder. Only when we are lost for words do we start to see the infinite reality.

Tagore International School

www.tagoreint.com
Established in 1972 by Dr. Mrs. H. Sen, TIS aims at creating an environment where children develop their personality and pursue self learning. The School's philosophy is well illustrated in Rabindranath Tagore's words "I was brought up in an atmosphere of aspiration, aspiration for the expansion of the human spirit. We in our home sought freedom of power in our language, freedom of imagination in our literature, freedom of soul in our religious creeds, and that of mind in our social environment. Such an opportunity has given me confidence in the power of education which is one with life and only which can give us real freedom, the highest that is claimed for man, his freedom of moral communion in the human world".
Tagore International Schools have been imparting quality education in their two branches at East of Kailash and Vasant Vihar. The Schools believe in steady and continuous progress, with never-ending modernization and increased facilities and infrastructure. Great emphasis is laid on cultural exposure, which is encompassed by regular performances by renowned artists from the various corners of the world and the community works  to enhance the creativity and skills of the children.

The Schools have been in the forefront for international Teacher and Student Exchange Programmes with France, China, Australia , Japan ,New Zealand,Indonesia and Singapore. We are one of the first to have our own website, since 1998. Special sports programmes such as Taekwondo ,Yoga and Aerobics enable the students to participate in international events.
Social responsibility has always occupied a top spot, with children from orphanages, NGOs, and the visually impaired, getting free mainstream education. Reasonable fee structure over the years has ensured a wide spread social representation in the parental clientele.
