The joy of volunteering

Dear Sandeep

On behalf of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation and National Award Authorities around the world, I write to thank you for your volunteering services over the past commitment you have shown to advancing the IAYP India and the International Award Association over the past three years as India's Honorary National Director.

You leave an important legacy in this year of the IAYP India's 50th anniversary. You have successfully captured the support of Awardees and young people through the development of the Gold Award Holders Society. You have developed a highly effective internship programme. You have introduced the innovative YES Centre model. You have grown the organisation's partnerships, capacity building capability and communications programme. You should be proud of your achievements because they put in place a solid foundation for the future development of the Award in India.

You have also played an important role in the life of the Award worldwide, through your membership of the International Council. Your support for the objectives of the One Award Alliance project and your enthusiasm for bringing the Award Programme to many more young people, regardless of educational background or financial means, have set an example for us all to follow.

Thank you, once again, for your kind hospitality on my recent visit to India, where I was able to see the impact of the Award first-hand.

Wishing you and your family all the very best for the future,

Yours sincerely

John

Champion for the young people

Sandeep has over the years been invited to many industry, government, social sector and education sector presentations for not only exchanging views, but also help in policy and development issues.

Volunteer for over three decades and worked pro bono for over three years as Hon. National Director with The Award Programme Foundation, that has a network of over 300 schools, colleges and education institutions in India. The Foundation runs on campus training and development programmes with partnering schools, colleges and institutions. With easy access to the students, teachers, instructors and Award Leaders, work to build socially conscious youth groups. The main aim is inclusive social growth, and equip for life the young of India, as per the aims of the National Youth Policy. For more please visit www.iayp.in

Well connected with schools, educationists, institutions, corporate sector and government. The portal Good Schools of India www.gsi.in is today a major resource with NDTV as media partner.

The compilation, Guide to Good Schools of India, now in its seventh edition, is a useful handbook.  It is useful, of course, to parents, at whom it is primarily directed.  Education—and when I say education in this context, I mean private education—is booming in India.  Drive through any small to big town or city in India, and you will see evidence of the boom.  From paper leaflets to huge billboards, the advertising of new schools is relentless.  This offends some people. Yet, what is undeniable and heartening is that this is evidence of the boom in education—and in the long run that can only be good.  More schools mean more opportunities and choices for India’s children and parents.

Sandeep has over 25 years of hands on experience and has been involved with schools across the country and worked with students in all kinds of socio-economic environments. Made presentations for projects with the Govt. of Meghalaya, Govt. of Uttarakhand, State Govt. of Delhi and the Min of Youth and Sports  and the Australian Sports Commission to help build a curriculum for enabling young people to equip for life.

Champion for youth empowerment and works to:

  • Help build patriotic sentiment in youth
  • Advocate issues / champion causes
  • Offer the youth a voice
  • Human capital development
  • Enabler of Youth learning
  • Work for training and capacity building

Sandeep sees the possibility of a nation where every school offers young Indian the opportunity to be rewarded for challenging themselves, rewarded for engaging with adult mentors, rewarded when finishing school, and rewarded for giving back to their communities. We can help connect young Indians with new opportunities to change their world.

Found my groove!

Finally after years of what some call volunteer or pro bono work have decided to follow my true entrepreneur self. Like it is often said 'enough is enough' have now got on to the track of building another business, yes it will still be education and young people alone.

My first day of freedom, this first day of June 2012, has been full of ideas and think the genie in me now has me in control.  Building on the platform of Brewing Knowledge am all set to design and build a new enterprise. Friends, family and even fans (being rather immodest) all want me to be my real self and not get boxed in to a routine job. Need to read and lead as is the way for many.

June will be time with family, a big break from the routine job work and brain storm to look ahead. Happy to partner and work for helping train, empower and fire up people to be leaders.
